A Baby-Friendly Cinema Experience
January 20, 2017
For parents of infants and young children, taking some time to watch a film can be a surprsingly difficult thing to accomplish. But the Mama's Club Theater events at TOHO CINEMAS Roppongi Hills aim to make this a pleasant experience, giving parents a chance to relax at the movies while their children nap or play.
I recently had a chance to join the first-ever Mama's Club Theater held exclusively for MORI LIVING residents. The idea is that parents can bring along their babies and small children to the screening. And since everyone is with a child, there is no need to worry about disturbing others if your baby starts crying or talking. The volume of the movie is softer than usual, and the theater lights remain dimly lit throughout, so that both parents and children can enjoy the experience. Strollers can be parked outside the theater.
The MORI LIVING edition of Mama's Club Theater started at 10:30 a.m. and featured "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," a film in the Harry Potter series. While some kids watched parts of the movie with their parents, others quietly played, snacked or napped in the comfortable seats. Even though I was at the screening without a child, I found it surprisingly easy to concentrate on the movie, and everyone around me seemed to enjoy the experience.
One challenge of being a stay-at-home parent is finding ways in which to fill the days with fun and distraction for both the adult and the child. Mama's Club Theater is one great answer to this need.
