Cutting-Edge Men's Fashion at Roppongi Hills
May 31, 2016
Earlier this spring, a section of the fourth floor of Roppongi Hills West Walk was remodeled as a men's fashion destination.
During the opening reception, DJs played music and champagne and sake were served to guests.
The focus is on top Japanese brands as well as stores specializing in accessories such as bags or eyewear. There is also a men's hair salon employing bilingual stylists.
It's no secret to anyone who has visited Tokyo that the city has some of the most interesting and innovative fashion in the world. But in recent years, this has been even more true of men's fashion, with many local brands pushing the boundaries of how men dress for work, play and beyond. Now, many of the most unique brands have come to Roppongi Hills.
Earlier this spring, a section of the fourth floor of Roppongi Hills West Walk was remodeled as a men's fashion destination. I went to check out the new shops during the reopening event, and I was surprised to see so many of the hottest men's brands all in one place. The focus is on top Japanese brands such as Facetasm, Soph, Undercover and N. Hoolywood, as well as stores specializing in accessories such as bags or eyewear. There is also a men's hair salon employing bilingual stylists.
During the opening reception, DJs played music for a fun, party-like atmosphere, and champagne and sake were served to guests. Across the way, the bar Maduro at the Grand Hyatt had live music performances, as well as another free drink service. And guests got the chance to sample original rice crackers in flavors such as sesame or basil by Tokyo-based Senbei Brothers.
Designers from many of the brands were on hand for the event, interacting with guests to their stores. I stopped by to congratulate Hiromichi Ochiai, designer of Facetasm, who also recently opened a store in Omotesando Hills. While he did seem a bit overwhelmed by everything, he was all smiles and said he was proud to be among such a great mix of brands at Roppongi Hills. If I were him, I would be proud too!
