Case: Mori Living's Latest Property with Units for Sale
April 25, 2013
One of Mori Building's newest residential properties is also one of its most unique. Unlike many MORI LIVING buildings, Case is a small-scale residence of only six units, each with a different feel and layout. All six of the units are for sale, rather than for rent.
The project was designed by the Japanese architectural team SANAA, which is known for its work on buildings such as the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City and Le Louvre-Lens in France. In what is perhaps a subtle reference to these museum projects, the apartments at Case have a gallery-like feel to them. The exterior facade of Case is covered in silver metal mesh in a honeycomb pattern, which takes on a different appearance depending on the weather and the time of day or night.
Unlike most apartments in Japan, in which the rooms are clearly defined for a specific purpose, the residences at Case have a more fluid interpretation of space. The idea was to make units that can be freely and easily adapted to each owner's unique lifestyle. Features include gently curving walls and open passages, as opposed to doors, separating individual rooms. Each unit also has its own entrance and a private garden or rooftop balcony space, giving the feeling of a freestanding house. The type A unit also has a private parking space, and the type C basement unit is divided into two separate rooms, each with its own entrance from the private garden.
I will introduce inside the residence in next blog entry.
