Onsite Health Centers Give Residents Peace of Mind

Dr. Tetsuro Hayashi, director of the Roppongi Hills health consultation room.
A doctor is on hand at the health room from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (with some exceptions), and there is a nurse available 24 hours a day.
Most common ailments can be handled directly, and if patients wish to they can rest in the adjacent bed.
When moving to a new country, city or neighborhood, most people use their first few weeks to get their bearings, finding essentials like the nearest supermarket, pharmacy, and clinic. Residents of Roppongi Hills and Atago Green Hills have an easier time of this than many others, at least when it comes to a clinic. Luckily for them, there is a 24-hour health consultation room right in their residence and available whenever they may need it.
Dr. Tetsuro Hayashi, director of the Roppongi Hills health consultation room, said the most common reason residents visit him and his colleagues is cold symptoms, but they also see patients for various aches and pains. In other instances, people simply want to get some qualified health advice, rather than any kind of specific examination or treatment. He also said that the number of children who visit the clinic has increased over that past seven years that he's been working there, and the days and times each week when a pediatrician is on hand have become quite popular.
Once Dr. Hayashi or another staffer has examined a patient, they are able to provide one or two days' worth of medication for common ailments. This is especially helpful to those people who are not on Japanese national health insurance. If a particular medication is not available in the health room, the doctor can write a presciption to be filled at a nearby pharmacy. For patients who have been prescribed medication abroad for chronic conditions, Dr. Hayashi and his colleagues are able to suggest and prescribe a similar medication, which helps them feel more at ease.
Either Dr. Hayashi or another doctor is usually on hand at the health rooms from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and there is a nurse available 24 hours a day. The clinic at Atago Green Hills has been reachable directly via intercom, and since about a year ago the same is true of Roppongi Hills as well. This makes contacting the doctor or nurse even easier. And while most common ailments can be handled directly, in serious cases or those needing a specialist's opinion, staff will make referrals or send a patient to a nearby hospital, offering even more peace of mind.
