The typhoon that hit the Tokyo area on Halloween this year was a blessing in disguise for the residents and staff of the Roppongi Hills Residences. For months the staff had been meticulously planning their second annual Halloween party for the evening of Saturday, October 30, and judging by last year's turnout of about 120 guests, they were expecting a crowd of roughly 150 this year. But after poor weather led to the cancellation of the Roppongi Hills Halloween Parade and other outdoor events around town, they were pleasantly surprised by about 300 smiling guests, all decked out in costumes for the occasion. The party was held in two locations, the Sky Lounge and the Community Hall. The second of the two areas was set up with kid-friendly activities and entertainment, such as face stickers, balloon animals, story readings and a costume contest. Partygoers who entered the contest had their photos taken and stuck up on the wall, where other guests could vote for the winners. And of course, no Halloween party would be complete without plenty of delicious food, drinks and sweets. But the highlight of the night was a surprise to everyone. Fourteen staff members at Roppongi Hills Residences had been practicing for months to give residents an evening they wouldn't soon forget by perfecting a dance to Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Takuya Kojima of the front desk, who played Michael himself, was happy to hear the cheers from the crowd at the end of the number. "We had been practicing for three months, and it never seemed like enough," he said. "But finally at the last minute it came together, and it was really fun." Kelly
