J.H.V. Wine & Marriage: A Gem at Atago Green Hills
July 01, 2014
While it's always fun to try new things, when it comes to restaurants, most people I know have a handful of favorite places that they frequent more than others. Of these, many are likely to be reasonably priced, neighborhood spots, while others are places that you might go to for a more special occasion.
In Tokyo-perhaps world's greatest food city-we can find many restaurants that fall into both categories, and that's just what makes J.H.V.
Wine & Marriage so special.J.H.V. is a cozy yet elegant restaurant located on the second floor of Atago Green Hills Mori Tower. Chef Ryosuke Matsuzaki pays incredible attention to detail, and creates delicious, artfully presented dishes using fresh, seasonal ingredients. His food is neither heavy nor overly seasoned, and is a great choice for both a relaxed Friday dinner and a romantic splurge.
But the best part is that, while it feels like a splurge, it is very friendly on the wallet, with three dinner courses available, ranging in price from 3,900yen to 7,500yen. The menu changes every few weeks based on the ingredients that are in season, but whenever you go, you're sure to have a range of excellent dishes from which to choose.
The restaurant is owned by a wine importing company, so the wine list offered to accompany your meal will surely please. The sommelier, Sakura Ito, is very knowledgeable and able to recommend excellent pairings for whatever dish you may order.
During my last visit my group had such delicious selections as sea bass in a white wine and butter reduction, foie gras with truffle sauce, roast beef with potato gratin, and a plate of ten different types of vegetables, all simply but deliciously prepared to highlight their natural flavors.
Every single thing we tried was a hit, and I'm already planning my next visit and wondering what delicacies will be on the menu this time.
