Shopping for Fall Flowers at Toranomon Hills
November 15, 2016
It was raining yet again that day, but luckily the market was moved indoors instead of being cancelled.
While it would have been even better to browse the market stalls outdoors, just seeing the beautiful flowers and plants lifted my mood and made me forget about the rain.
Stands were selling everything from fresh cut flowers and potted plants to dried bouquets and even flower cookies!
Many people think of spring as being the time of year for flowers, but in Japan we're lucky to have something in bloom all year round. After a very rainy fall with more typhoons that usual, I was looking forward to checking out the Flower Marché that was held at Toranomon Hills at the beginning of fall. It was raining yet again that day, but luckily the market was moved indoors instead of being cancelled.

I spent some time wandering through the booths admiring all the beautiful blooms. Some of my favorites were the dramatic black dahlias and unique proteas, and I also loved the tiny potted succulents being sold by one shop.
Another stall, from a shop in Toranomon called Sakura Florist, was selling potted herbs and chili pepper plants. I was surprised to see many habanero plants covered with bright orange or red peppers. I decided to buy one myself and use the peppers in my cooking - I can't wait to taste just how spicy they are!
This was the second time Toranomon Hills has hosted the Flower Marché, following one in March. I'm looking forward to going again, possibly in the spring. Hopefully it will be held outside!
