A Night for Foodies at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo
July 26, 2016
On one special night at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo recently, many of Tokyo's best restaurants came together to allow guests to sample their delicious and creative offerings.
Establishments that took part in the event included Celaravird, which creates innovative modern gastronomy using natural flavors. That night they offered food that resembled vegetables growing from the soil.
The truffle rice was rich and full of umami and it was one dish that left me wanting seconds!
With the largest number of Michelin-starred restaurants of any city in the world, Tokyo is widely known as a center for top-class gourmet food. And on one special night at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo recently, many of the city's best restaurants came together to allow guests to sample their delicious and creative offerings. Add to this some very exciting entertainment, and the Gastronomy Night was an event that surely will not be forgotten soon.
In addition to foods served up by the restaurants at the hotel itself, establishments that took part in the event included Celaravird, which creates innovative modern gastronomy using natural flavors. There were edible origami cranes, and foods that resembled vegetables growing from the soil. A place called Papabubble served up gelato made with liquid nitrogen, and a place called Celaravird served up dessert caused smoke to billow out from one's nostrils when eaten.
But there were traditional offerings as well, such as delicious sushi from Sushi Ichikawa and "dorayaki" stuffed pancakes from Usagiya.
I had so much fun wandering from booth to booth, trying the various foods available and chatting to other guests about which was their favorite. The dishes certainly made excellent conversation starters. A highlight for me was the truffle rice from Kadowaki. Warm, rich and full of umami, it was one dish that left me wanting seconds!
In the middle of the evening was an enchanting performance by performing arts company Enra, which combines moving images with a live music and dance performance. I was absolutely captivated by the brilliance of it - all the moves were perfectly timed and executed to weave seamlessly with the video projection. The relatively short performances left me wanting more.
On my way out of the event I heard other guests mentioning that they hope there is another similar event in the future, as this one was such a success. I must say that I agree with them!
