ARK Kitchen Adds New Gourmet Options to ARK Hills
January 27, 2014
Fukushimaya Tasting Market focuses mainly on natural foods.
The produce area features photos of the farmers who grow many of the vegetables that are on sale, and each item is labeled with the region or prefecture where it originated.
Called ARK Kitchen, the space encompasses a variety of different restaurants and cafes, as well as a very unique supermarket.
Earlier this month, a new retail floor opened in the basement of ARK Hills South Tower, providing the area's office workers and residents alike with new places to shop and eat.
Called ARK Kitchen, the space encompasses a variety of different restaurants and cafes, as well as a very unique supermarket.
Fukushimaya Tasting Market focuses mainly on natural foods, with special attention paid to transparency and connecting the producers to the end users.
The produce area features photos of the farmers who grow many of the vegetables that are on sale, and each item is labeled with the region or prefecture where it originated. Rice also comes directly from the farms, and a machine in the store is used to clean it before customers take it home. Even the meat products are affixed with detailed stickers that not only tell shoppers where they are from, but even what the animals were fed.
The market also sells bread and bakery items, lunch boxes, fried food, soup, jam and other products that are made onsite, using ingredients available at the store (hence the name "tasting market").
Across from the main market is a small cafe and wine shop, which stocks several varieties of organic wines.
In addition to Fukushimaya, ARK Kitchen is home to restaurants that offer a wide range of specialties, including sushi, okonomiyaki, Chinese food, gourmet burgers, wagyu beef, and Italian cuisine. There is even a wine bar at the end opposite Fukushimaya, and the staff there told me they plan to put tables on the outdoor terrace during the warmer months.
I was at ARK Kitchen the day after it opened, and already it seems to be a very popular spot for people in the area.
I can see why-I look forward to going back for some okonomiyaki this winter, and to the wine terrace in the spring!
