LIVE IN THE HEART OF TOKYO

MARUNOUCHI:
Whether you go to Marunouchi to work, to shop, or to catch the Shinkansen from Tokyo Station, MORI LIVING makes it simple to get there by subway.
GINZA:
Only on the Ginza can you shop in world-famous department stores, take in a Kabuki performance, then go to dinner. It is easy to get there by subway from most MORI LIVING residences.
AKASAKA:
From classic Japanese haute cuisine to Chinese noodle stands, from live performance to historic shrines, Akasaka has it all. Four MORI LIVING residences are located here, in the same neighborhood as the National Diet Building.
KAMIYACHO:
This neighborhood sits just below Tokyo's symbol, Tokyo Tower, which Tokyoites, or so they say, rarely go up. It is also only a few steps away from green and historic Mt. Atago.
Roppongi:
Roppongi Hills, in the cultural heart of the city where business thrives. In this neighborhood, new cultural and entertainment facilities continue to open one after another, making Roppongi more than ever a source of new energy for Tokyo.
AZABU JUBAN:
People from all over the world come here to take part in the famous summer festival. The excitement is irresistible. The truly international, yet down home, flavor of this neighborhood is rare even in Tokyo.
OMOTESANDO:
Omote, the front, is Omotesando. Ura, the back streets, is Harajuku, next door. The contrast can be exhilarating. Omotesando is synonymous with fashion worldwide. There is always something new happening here.
SHIBUYA:
Here is the epicenter of Tokyo youth and pop culture, an immensely popular place with MORI LIVING's foreign residents. It is easy to get to by subway or bus, even on foot, from some MORI LIVING residences.
SHINJUKU:
The city hall and skyscrapers of Nishi Shinjuku. The down and dirty of Kabukicho. A great place to shop, and so, so easy to get to from MORI LIVING residences.

LIFE IN A COMPACT CITY

The whole neighborhood is “My place.”
Step out the door and it's all there, fun, stimulation, new people, new ideas. Welcome to the city in the heart of the city, the compact city envisioned by Mori Building.

FASHION, DINING & LIFESTYLE

Shops and Restaurants: Roppongi Hills Residences, Omotesando Hills Zelkova Terrace
From luxury brands to unique items found only here, these neighborhoods have it all. Looking for something to eat? There are restaurants with Michelin stars and casual cafes. From morning to night, whenever you like, it's your dining room, your closet. It's where you live.
Grand Hyatt Tokyo, ANA Intercontinental Tokyo: Roppongi Hills Residences, ARK Towers
With the whole neighborhood "My place," its hotels are your guest rooms. And not just a place for your friends to sleep; they may also need lunch or dinner. The Grand Hyatt Tokyo has nine restaurants and bars, the ANA Intercontinental Hotel Tokyo eleven.
Morning Market: ARK Towers, Roppongi Hills Residences
The Morning Market brings fresh fruit and vegetables straight from Ibaraki Prefecture, where the Shishido Hills Country Club & the Shizu Hills Country Club are located. When you want to show your friends that what you turn out in your own kitchen yields nothing to any three-star chef, this is the place to find your ingredients. But popular items sell out quickly. You will have to get up early on market days.

ART & CULTURE

Mori Art Museum: Roppongi Hills Residences
You can live just across the street from this world-class museum, whose stimulating programs and curation are exciting interest around the globe. That isn't something you can find just anywhere. The "Art for Parents and Kids" program, in which you and your children enjoy art with the curator as your guide, is especially popular.
Suntory Hall: ARK Towers
Here your residence shares the same site with Suntory Hall, a concert hall whose acoustics Herbert von Karajan found extraordinary. On gala concert nights, the plaza in front of your entrance is filled with excitement and color. Then, when the concert is over, you don't have to worry about catching the last train or bus. Sit back, relax, and listen to the music still singing in your heart.
Zazen at Seishoji: Atago Green Hills Forest Tower
Here your residence shares the same site with Seishoji, a temple that has never ceased to query Buddhist practice throughout its 530-year history. Non-Japanese are welcome to participate in its popular Zen meditation session. Here there's no need to go out of your way to look deeply into yourself.

ENTERTAINMENT

Tokyo City View and Sky Deck: Roppongi Hills Residences
Just across the street from your home, you can stand on a platform 250m above sea level and look down on a city that is one of humanity's most gigantic works of art. There's your own residence, right beneath your eyes. When the weather is good, you have a breathtaking view that stretches as far as Mt. Fuji. The summer fireworks over Tokyo Bay or the outer garden of Meiji Shrine. This is the perfect spot from which to watch them.
TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills: Roppongi Hills Residences
Suddenly you want to see a movie on the big screen. No need to wait. Your "living room" includes nine theaters, all equipped with THX sound systems. Note, too: There are special late night showings on Friday and weekend nights.
Outdoor Noh: Atago Green Hills Forest Tower
Step out your entrance. Just behind you is an elevator that will take you to the top of Mt. Atago. Since Edo times, this spot has been famous for its outdoor Noh performed by firelight. Here in the middle of Tokyo, the modern world disappears. The hallucinatory beauty of this classical art form is yours to be captivated by.

WELLNESS

HILLS SPAs: Roppongi Hills Residences, Atago Green Hills Forest Tower, ARK Towers, Motoazabu Hills
All four spas are located inside MORI LIVING residences. Why waste time traveling to your workout in the morning, after work, or on holidays? A full array of beauty treatments and massage is also available. So, yes, you can live in the center of Tokyo and have your own pool. A bit different that is from commuting to a gym.
Morning Tai-chi: Roppongi Hills Residences
Roppongi Hills is famous for its morning Tai-chi exercises. And since you live here, there is no travel involved. That makes it easy to stick with it. You will soon make friends, too. The exercises take place in the Roppongi Hills Arena, a public space where day or night there is always something exciting going on.
Health Consultation Room: Roppongi Hills Residences, Atago Green Hills Forest Tower
The idea is simple, a family doctor who is right there in your own building. The doctors are affiliated with the Jikei University Hospital, and bilingual nurses are on call 24 hours a day. In case of medical emergency, help is right at hand.

GREENERY & ENVIRONMENT

Four Seasons Hill: Motoazabu Hills
Cherry blossoms in spring, the spectacular colors of the maples in autumn, the sheer variety of trees, the flowers changing from season to season, the sounds of water, the birdsongs: A landscape that you'd ordinarily have to make a pilgrimage to is right outside your entrance. Just strolling along the paths around your residence can be an adventure in natural history.
The ARK Hills Cherry Trees: ARK Towers
Twenty years have passed since they were planted. Now their branches form a leafy tunnel. Here in the center of Tokyo is one of Japan's premiere displays of cherry blossoms, just outside your front door. The view is gorgeous, not just when you walk up Sakurazaka but when you look down from your balcony as well.
Rice Planting and Harvesting in a Rooftop Garden: Roppongi Hills Residences
As fall approaches, the rice growing in the rooftop garden on top of the cinema complex ripens. That's something you don't usually see. Each year families with children participate in planting and harvesting the rice. A bit of traditional Japan lives on, here in the heart of Tokyo.

BUILDING NEW RELATIONSHIPS

Roppongi Academy Hills: Roppongi Hills Residences
Meet, study, be touched by stimulating ideas. Encounter people from all sorts of backgrounds. Share thoughts and feelings and see new relationships blossom. Or retire to the study to quietly read a book by yourself. Some of the city's smartest minds are right next door.
Roppongi Hills Club, ARK Hills Club: Roppongi Hills Residences, ARK Towers
As a member of these exclusive clubs, you will meet people who are leaders in their fields, people with ideas. You will form ties, growing your network as you share quality time, conversations, and meals. The relationships you form will be ones you treasure for life. This is one of the compact city's most important characteristics.

So, what will you do today?

ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN

From the grand design of the neighborhoods to details of your residence's interior, your everyday life is enhanced by the work of world-renowned architects and designers.

Dan Pearson   Garden Designer / Roppongi Hills Residences

The Roppongi Hills Roof Gardens are based on elements of English landscape and garden history combined with features of traditional Japanese gardens to create a fusion of East and West.

A sinuous line links the 14 roof gardens and is translated into hedges, stone walls, and a rill of water. Each garden space draws upon a period in British garden history and updates old ideas such as the apothecary garden, the rill or the mediaeval observation mound and gives them a strong, contemporary aesthetic.

The plants are all native species selected to tolerate the exposed growing conditions, and they overlay the hard landscaping with an informality that is contemplative and restful, but also playful and humorous. The four smallest garden spaces were dedicated as inaccessible ecological zones for birds and insects.

I hope that everyone who is lucky enough to come to Roppongi Hills feels refreshed and enlivened by the greenery they find here on the rooftops.

Tadao Ando   Architect / Omotesando Hills Zelkova Terrace, Forest Plaza Omotesando

The residences at Omotesando Hills form a rhythmical structure based on a three-dimensional frame. The floor-to-ceiling openings that face Omotesando are for enjoyment of the Zelkova trees that line the avenue. The shrubs planted on the rooftop connect the building with the trees. So even though the residences do not directly abut the street, only here will you find yourself feeling at one with it. That was my plan for this residential complex wrapped in greenery.

Richard Doone, Conran & Partners   Architect / Roppongi Hills Residences

At Conran & Partners we believe that the purpose of architecture and design is to improve the quality of life. An essential element of this belief is that our cities will be more successful and vibrant if we integrate where we work, live and play. We therefore felt an immediate empathy with Minoru Mori's vision for Roppongi Hills.

My lasting memory is how stimulating it was to collaborate with the international team in Japan and how the orchestration of everyone's commitment realised the opening of Roppongi Hills on a single day in April 2003 - a model of genuine urban regeneration for everyone to enjoy.

Akemi Sugii   Gardener / ARK Towers, Forest Terrace Shoto, Akasaka Tameike Tower Residence, Atago Green Hills Forest Tower, Motoazabu Hills, Roppongi Hills Residences, Roppongi Sakura-zaka Residence, Holland Hills Mori Tower RoP

Each of the seven gardens at ARK Hills has its own theme. At Roppongi Hills, the theme is plants native to Japan. Members of the HILLS GARDENING CLUB tend the plantings on Sakura-zaka. Besides the physical effect of mitigating the heat island effect, urban greenery also has an important psychological impact on both residents and passersby. Here our goal is gardens with emotional resonance connected to the seasons and to nature. All gardening is artificial, but my hope is that, when set against their background of tall buildings and expressways, our gardens become true expressions of nature in an urban setting.

Shozo Uchii   Architect / Motoazabu Hills

Different kinds of plants, all combined in one place, their reciprocal relationships forming an ecology, a city that resembles a forest. It is natural and artificial, high-rise and low-rise, workplace and residence, culture and entertainment, creativity and tradition, all adding to the liveliness and fascination of fully integrated neighborhoods.

Asking myself what would be best for people living in the heart of the city, I proposed a top-heavy form that would take full advantage of the views, the light, and the breezes—the appeal of the sky, which is one surviving aspect of nature writ large in the city. High-rise design to create a green-covered artificial hill on the rooftop and the terraces on the upper floors, we could, if only a little, reduce the city’s heat island effect.

Cesar Pelli   Architect / Atago Green Hills Forest Tower

The design of the towers in the Atago Green Hills site was very important to us.
The site was most impressive because of its heavily wooded hill, but above all because of the Seishoji Temple. To design large buildings with proper respect for the Buddhist Temple was an exciting but difficult endeavor.
Meeting with the head priest of the Seishoji Temple strengthened our belief that the Atago Green Hills towers had to be not only beautiful but very dignified.
Today they are two great pillars marking against the sky the presence in the ground of
this reverend temple.

Ryuichiro Gokyu, G2 DESIGN STUDIO   Designer / Roppongi Hills Residences

Our mission was to create a new standard for Tokyo housing. The spaces we created are designed to allow anyone who lives in them to adapt them to their own, individual tastes and needs. High-quality yet simple, these spaces would be a perfect fit with every lifestyle. At the end of the day, our goal was not to create spaces that some individuals might find thrilling, but instead to raise the ordinary to the highest possible standard. Mori Building was an ideal partner for us, understanding perfectly what we were trying to do. The result is precisely that new, higher standard that we were aiming to create.

Ryu Kosaka, Aoyama Nomura Design   Creative Director / Hirakawacho Mori Tower Residence

The exterior is dignified Hirakawacho, discreetly circumspect. The quiet, unpretentious interior welcomes you with residences designed as urban hideaways. Their extraordinary sense of privacy and freedom is available in a choice of floor plans. You are sure to find one that suits your tastes and needs. Light, refreshing breezes, and breathtaking panoramic views of central Tokyo await in the rooftop garden, a private paradise that only residents and their guests can enjoy.

EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT STRUCTURE

144 Oil Dampers: Atago Green Hills Forest Tower
The oil sealed in the cylinders absorbs seismic energy.
Rubber Bearings and Dampers: Roppongi Hills Residence D
Laminated natural rubber isolates the building from the ground, reducing surface vibration by one-third. The dampers absorb the remaining seismic energy to minimize shaking.
Seismic Damping Walls: Roppongi Hills Residences B and C
Box-shaped walls filled with a liquid as viscous as thick syrup have a high moment of inertia and damp the force of steel beams vibrating inside them to reduce the effects of earthquakes.

SURROUNDED BY GARDENS

SEASONS

The colors of the flowers. The birdsongs. The ripening fruit. The scent of the herbs. In this rooftop garden, it's like being in the country. Look down and watch the rice planting and harvesting in the field on top of the cinema complex. A homework assignment investigating insects? No problem at all. If the weather is fine, organize a barbecue. Summer, fall, winter or spring, there are always new discoveries and surprises to enjoy.

IN-HOUSE MEDICAL CLINICS

The Roppongi Hills Residences and Atago Green Hills Forest Tower Health Consultation Room doctors are provided through a special arrangement with the Jikei University Hospital. Bilingual nurses are available 24 hours a day. These facilities guard your family's health with both everyday medical care and rapid emergency response. You feel secure knowing that there is no need to call an ambulance, 24/7.

WARM AND HOSPITABLE STAFF

Toru Endo
I enjoy practicing with residents and other community members. We dance. We sweat. We are all performers of “Roppongi Gaku,” a unique mixture of classical and folk masked dance that is one of the main attractions at the Roppongi Hills “Bon-odori” summer dance festival. It's serious fun.
Akiko Mori
We have lots of children in this residence. "Where is Madagascar?" "I need to check the electric meters." Sometimes we have to lend a hand with their homework. It is one of the jobs we like best.
Noboru Misawa
Sometimes we organize concerts or invite street performers to perform at our residence. At Christmas, I dress up as a reindeer. If nobody goes home early, we know that we've had a success.
Yoshiaki Tanaka
When our residents board the bus and head off for the Shizu Hills Country Club, I sometimes get to go along. Every MORI LIVING CUP, the residents' golf tournament, is a truly international competition.
Yoko Sasaki
There are costumes homemade by the mothers, sometimes fathers who have dressed up, too. Even compared to other MORI LIVING residences, ours is famous for our Halloween.

ACTIVE TENANT COMMUNITY

Periodically, you will receive MORI LIVING envelopes delivered to your residence. These contain invitations to exclusive events for our tenants. By participating in these events you will enjoy unforgettable times and meet your neighbors, the extraordinary people who are a benefit of MORI LIVING in which we take particular pride. Why not join us for the next event?

Tsukiji:
A private tour of the Tsukiji Fish Market. It's worth getting up early to see the energy of these pros in action.
Sake Tasting:
It seems that there are sommeliers for Japanese sake, too.
Even wine experts from France get totally absorbed in sake tasting.
Bonsai:
Each small container garden contains a universe.
Bonsai. An incredible experience.
Golf:
I'm going to play again in the MORI LIVING CUP.
This time I'll beat my neighbor from two floors down.
Cinema:
At that MORI LIVING residents-only cinema event, me, my son, and the woman next door were all laughing together
Japanese Confectionary:
I was surprised to find myself making Japanese confections that I could take home to share with family and friends.
Origami:
Even more than the kids, it's the parents who get caught up in the Japanese art of paper folding.
Karate:
I was learning karate starting with its history.
Then my daughter told me not to practice in the living room.
Brand Events:
Famous brands are willing to put on exclusive fashion shows for MORI LIVING residents. What a luxury!
