We're already a month into 2017 (how did that happen?), which means one thing: Valentine's Day is just around the corner! Whether you're looking to wow someone special or to give out tokens of appreciation to your co-workers, Tokyo has some of the best shops in the world to indulge a sweet tooth. Here are a few to try:
Hugo & Victor was founded in Paris in 2010 by chef pâtissier Hugues Pouget, and it now has three shops in Tokyo, including one in Omotesando Hills. This year for Valentine's Day it is offering a limited-edition series of chocolates, sphéres and financiers made with French strawberries. Packaged in Hugo & Victor's signature book-like boxes, they are the perfect choice for literature lovers. They're available in stores now through February 14.
For art fans, Elle Café at Roppongi Hills has teamed up with artist Daisuke Nomura to produce a specially designed edition of the cafe's new item, carrés de chocolat, or boxed chocolates. Both the box and the 16 individually wrapped chocolates feature work by Nomura, who has also created men's scarves for Hermes. As "carres de chocolat" are healthy chocolates with limited carbohydrates, it's a great gift if you care about someone's health. Ell Café's original simple white boxes with four or eight chocolates each will also be available. Get these items at the cafe starting Saturday, February 4.
If you are shopping for a gourmet or pastry lover, be sure to stop into Pirouette at Toranomon Hills. Now through March 16, the epicerie is selling two different chocolate creations that are sure to delight even the most discerning foodies. The cannelle chocolat is a conical pastry with a crispy exterior, soft interior, and smooth, mildly sweet chocolate flavor. Also available are chocolate dipped orange peels, which have a contrast of sweet and tart flavors in one bite.
Wherever your Valentine's Day shopping takes you this year, be sure to pick up a little something extra for yourself! You deserve it.
