Trying Out Hotel Life at Tokyo's Newest Luxury Residence
June 08, 2015
Last summer saw the opening of Toranomon Hills, Tokyo's newest multi-use complex and an instant landmark. Recently, as part of my ongoing research, I was able to arrange a one-night stay to experience firsthand what life in this luxurious building is like.
My husband and I arrived on a Friday afternoon. We met with a friendly staff member, who assisted us to collect our room key, access cards, and tickets for breakfast and use of the spa at the beautiful Andaz hotel. Then we headed upstairs to our room.
The first thing you notice when entering an apartment at Toranomon Hills Residence is the amazing view that seems to stretch on forever. Opening the curtains of our 45th-floor corner unit was initially a bit vertigo-inducing, but we soon adjusted and found ourselves staring idly out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the city below.
After settling in, we took the elevator down to the 37th floor, where we spent a bit of time working on our laptops in the quiet, comfortable Panorama Lounge. But there were too many other things to explore, so this didn't last long. We used our access cards to open the discreet door that connects the residence directly to the AO SPA AND CLUB at the Andaz hotel. There, we spent a full two hours working out in the gym, swimming laps in the beautiful pool, and relaxing in the jacuzzi. The one thing that kept running through my mind was how wonderful it must be to have access to this every day!
With all of our running, lifting and swimming, we worked up an appetite, so when we got back to the apartment we decided to take advantage of another aspect of the partnership between Toranomon Hills Residence and the Andaz by ordering from the hotel's room service menu. Before long a waiter arrived at our door wheeling a white linen-covered table holding our dinner. The room service menu includes a variety of dishes and cuisines, which was perfect for us since I wanted Japanese and my husband felt like pasta. We washed our meal down with some wine and then spent the rest of the night relaxing in front of the amazing view.
In the morning we headed back to the Andaz for breakfast, which was just as delicious as one might expect. The choices available to us were vast, including omelets, waffles, Nutella-stuffed brioche French toast, salad, fresh fruit, cereal and yogurt, and a variety of freshly baked breads. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable experience, the entirety of which left me with one thought: I could get used to this!
