An Exclusive Film Screening for MORI LIVING Residents
February 16, 2015
The event was a part of the MORI LIVING Cinema series.
Residents who are interested in attending can apply through a lottery system, and if selected, they are given a pair of ticket vouchers at no charge.
The film featured this time was "Annie". In Japan, being able to see a movie before it is released to the public is a huge privilege.
I've always been a tiny bit jealous of movie reviewers-not because they get to share their opinions, good or bad, with a large audience, but because they get to see the films for free before they are even released to the public. Especially in Japan, where Hollywood movies tend to come out later than in other countries due to the time it takes to translate them to Japanese, this is a huge privilege. So needless to say, I was very excited when I was invited to a recent private MORI LIVING screening of the film "Annie," two days before it started showing in theaters here.
The event was a part of the series MORI LIVING Cinema. Residents who are interested in attending apply through a lottery system, and if selected, they are given a pair of ticket vouchers at no charge. Starting a few days before the screening, the vouchers can be exchanged at the TOHO CINEMAS Roppongi Hills box office for assigned seating tickets. Then, on the day of the event, all they have to do is show up and enjoy the film.
I loved the musical and original "Annie" movie as a young girl, so I was intrigued by the new, modern adaptation of this classic. I must say, even as an adult, I found it to be very entertaining. Quvenzhane Wallis was perfectly lovable and spunky in the title role, and she had great onscreen chemistry with Jamie Foxx. I also thought the original songs written just for the movie did a great job of bringing the story into the present day.
Overall, it was a great event, but I think the little girl sitting next to me with her parents enjoyed it even more than I did! It was wonderful to see a whole new generation of kids captured by the story that had been one of my own childhood favorites.
