A Special Family Event for MORI LIVING Residents
December 22, 2014
The venue was beautifully decorated with colorful balloons. Starting from their entrance to the hall escorted by their fathers, the girls practiced the routines that were choreographed to specially selected music.
There were an impressive buffet of candies and cakes on one side of the hall, as well as food buffet and a drinks bar.
At the very end, the staff played a video that had been put together using footage from the event. The girls loved picking themselves and their fathers out of the crowd.
MORI LIVING plans many fun events for its residents every year, from barbecues and holiday parties to cooking workshops and exclusive movie nights. But recently there was another kind of event that Mori had never done before, and it was a very unique and special one.
Father-daughter dances are well known and fairly common at schools and community centers in the West, but I had never heard of one in Japan before. So when I was invited to attend the first-ever MORI LIVING father-daughter dance, I was quite intrigued to see what it would be like. Even as a young girl, I had never been to one of these events before, and I didn't quite know what to expect, especially in Tokyo.
Any expectations or preconceptions I had were immediately blown away. I walked into the venue to see it beautifully decorated with colorful balloons, and with an impressive buffet of candies and cakes on one side of the hall. There was also a food buffet and a drinks bar. At the tables were smartly-dressed fathers with their daughters-aged from infants to young adults-decked out in their finest party dresses.
A pair of professional ballroom dancers taught different routines to each age group. Starting from their entrance to the hall escorted by their fathers, the girls practiced the routines that were choreographed to specially selected music. Then after rehearsing with the professionals a few times, each group had a chance to present its performance to the rest of the guests. Many of the girls' mothers came to the event for this part, and it was clear that they were very happy and moved to see their daughters bonding with their fathers.
Other attractions of the evening included a photo booth where the girls enjoyed dressing themselves and their fathers in various costumes and props before having their photos taken. Prizes were given to the girls who gave the best effort in their dance routine, and there was also a drawing for tickets to Tokyo Disneyland. But perhaps the highlight of the evening came at the very end, when the staff played a video that had been put together using footage from the event. The girls loved picking themselves and their fathers out of the crowd.
As I was getting up to leave, I overhead one father say to his daughter, "Next year let's try harder to win the prize." I don't know if MORI LIVING plans on holding the same event again next year, but I can tell it will be a hit if so!
