Music Terrace at Toranomon Hills is More than Just a Beer Garden
August 28, 2014
Summer in Tokyo is a time of outdoor dining and drinking, with restaurants and bars across the city throwing open their doors and setting up tables and chairs on whatever piece of pavement is available. Beer gardens are also a huge part of this, and a great way to cool down from the summer heat.
I recently stopped by the terrace event at Toranomon Hills, but I quickly realized that this was no ordinary beer garden.
The official name of the event is Music Terrace, and on Friday and Saturday evenings from now through September 13, a different artist or band will be performing live. But even when there isn't a performance scheduled, the atmosphere is cool and relaxing, with music ranging from bossa nova to jazz playing on large speakers, and mist fans keeping the heat at bay.
In addition to high bar-style tables and regular tables and chairs, there is also some very comfortable sofa seating, perfect for relaxing over a drink with a group of friends. Decorative lights come on after dusk to further add to the atmosphere.
In addition to beer, wine and cocktails, the terrace serves Tex-Mex food offerings made from fresh, quality ingredients. I recommend getting one of the fajita sets to share between two people.
You can choose from seafood, chicken and beef, or chicken and pork, and a waiter brings a portable grill right to your table for you to cook your meat and veggies to your own preferences. I tried the seafood fajita, which comes with prawns and squid, onions, colorful bell peppers, lettuce, salsa, guacamole and sour cream. It was delicious, and went very well with the mojito I was drinking!
I look forward to going back to Music Terrace again to catch some of the live performances before the event ends.
